This will be an ongoing research / taste testing. Mainly because Brampton has so MANY AWESOME restaurants.
And Jerk Chicken is one of my favorites dishes. I’m a big fan of BBQ’d chicken and coleslaw.

This is part one.  Part two is here: Great Brampton Jerk Off 2
So lets start this off.
My first place in Brampton to go to as my staple is Molly’s Hotte Shop on Chrysler / Williams.
I know Paul and Molly, I like their food and it’s a meal that I eat often.

The first place that I went to off my beaten path was Bakers Jerk House on Sunnyvale Gate in Brampton. It was 11:30 and the sign said open at 11am… but the door was locked so I moved on.

Gems House of Jerk:

Gems House of Jerk at Airport Rd. & Boviard was on my way so I stopped in. It’s a bit intimidating when you walk in as there is a hall that leads into the dining room and it feels a bit like an alley. But the front desk girl was friendly and took my order for a large Jerk Chicken. There was one other patron there who I think was hitting on her but we had a pleasant enough conversations about cell phones and cases. The dish was served quickly since it was take out and I was out the door in less then 10 minutes. About $10 poorer but a big smile. I ran it home and took this picture and dug in.

It was awesome! More sweet then spicy.  The Serving side was much bigger then I expected and I finished the entire meal.

Would I go back?   Yes, in a second without hesitation.

Price $10

Portland Jerk:

The next trip I made was Portland Jerk at Queen and Torbram.  It was just a lucky break that I ended up there, I was at a clients and one of the guys there is from the Caribbean and he referred it.   I went in and it was just a little place with lots of pictures of the Island Life on the walls and the order desk was at the back.

There was a lineup which to me is a good sign.  Plus I’m assuming that it was the owner but whoever was running the cash knew a lot of the people in line.

I ordered my large Jerk Chicken and it was around $10 and came with a side of coleslaw.   I ran it home and took this picture.

Portland Jerk was a bit spicier then Gem’s House of Jerk  and came with a separate coleslaw.  I think that there was a bit more chicken the Gem’s and the rice seemed a bit mushier but still good.

Would I go back?  Yes but I preferred Gem’s though either one of these would be good.

Bakers Jerk:

Later on that week, I finally got around to Bakers Jerk House when they were open.   I already had lunch so I ordered a small instead of a large for $8.00.  It’s in a strip mall just off of Bovaird at MountainAsh (West of Airport, East of Torbram)

When you walk in there, there is little seating and it’s spread out across the span of the location.   There is a glass buffet to the right that shows some delicious looking chicken.  It was pretty busy for a small location, another good sign.

The one thing that threw me off was that they asked if I wanted ‘Greens’ with the rice.  I was expecting coleslaw and the salad was just kind’ve tossed on top but the chicken was good.  The rice a bit crunchy but it was late in the afternoon so I can understand if it was sitting around for a little bit.   But the chicken was GOOD!

Would I go back?  It would be my last choice of the ones that I’ve sampled so far.

Mr. Jerk:

This week, I found myself at Mr. Jerk at Goreway and Derry on the Mississauga border.  It looked promising as there was a lineup out the door.   Inside, it was crowded and in need of a little love but it smelled good. I could not locate them on UrbanSpoon.

They didn’t have ‘meals’ per se but the menu offered Jerk a’la carte.  I ordered a 1/4 chicken with peas and rice and oxtail sauce.  They placed a bit of salad on top and with a Coke, it was $8.50

At first, I was drooling and anticipating trying some so before I even sat down, I threw a small piece of chicken in my mouth and found it kind’ve bland.  That would change when I had a piece with skin I thought.   Did I mention that they don’t have any seats?   I ended up sitting in the front passenger seat of my KIA Soul and eating it there.

I dove into a piece of jerk chicken with skin on it and again was a bit disappointed that it was bland.   Actually  it did have some sweetness to it like Gems but wasn’t quite there.   The rice was cooked perfectly and the oxtail sauce was mild.  It seemed like a lot of people in line were ordering the oxtail with white rice.  Maybe I’ll try that next time.

Would I go back?… probably not.

Cost?  Very reasonable.  $4-$10 for a very large
